Springfield Armor fans have been busy getting acquainted with new players. The NBA D-League expansion franchise, just 5-22 so far, hopes to fare much better in the second half of the season.

The Armor recently traded the league’s leading scorer, forward Morris Almond, and forward T.J. Cummings to Maine for guard Tony Bobbitt and forward-center Noel Felix.

Almond, a first-round selection by the Utah Jazz in the 2007 NBA draft, is averaging 26.8 points per game. He has appeared in 34 NBA games for the Jazz. Cummings was averaging 15.1 points and 8.9 rebounds at the time of the trade.

Bobbitt, who played with NBA veteran Vince Carter at Daytona Beach Mainland High School, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2004-05 NBA season and played two games.

The 6-9 Felix also boasts NBA experience. The Fresno State alumnus signed a 10-day contract with the Seattle SuperSonics in March 2006 and was later signed for the remainder of the season, playing in 12 NBA games. The 2005 CBA Defensive Player of the Year, Felix played in Israel after being waived by the Sonics in October 2006.

D-LEAGUE DOINGS: The week after the All-Star break yielded a handful of transactions for D-League franchises. Here’s a look:

  • Fort Wayne and Springfield engaged in a trade as the Mad Ants sent Kyle McAlarney to the Armor for Dan Dickau. In 23 games for the Mad Ants, McAlarney averaged 10.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Dickau spent last season in Germany. He scored 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting in his debut for the Mad Ants on Tuesday.

  • Rio Grande Valley added 6-9 forward Kevin Rogers and released 6-5 guard Russell Carter and 6-9 forward Julian Sensley. Rogers started his pro career in Greece with Panionois, averaging 6.0 points in three games for the foreign team. At Baylor, Rogers averaged 12.6 points and 7.6 rebounds during his senior campaign. Rio Grande Valley acquired Carter on waivers  from Austin on Feb. 8, but he did not see any action. Waived due to injury, Sensley appeared in 24 games for Rio Grande Valley, averaging 8.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists.

  • Luke Bonner is a new addition for Austin following a short stay in the Premier Basketball League. The younger brother of San Antonio Spurs forward Matt Bonner, the 7-1 Luke Bonner adds immediate size and depth.

  • Albuquerque waived former NCAA Tournament star Kevin Pittsnogle due to personal reasons. The 6-11 Pittsnogle started 21 of 28 games for the Thunderbirds and averaged 11.8 points and 5.4 rebounds. The Thunderbirds also acquired 6-10 forward Sasha Cuic. Earlier in the season, Cuic averaged 5.8 points for the Los Angeles D-Fenders but was waived earlier this month.

  • Following back-to-back 10-day contracts with the Cleveland Cavaliers, 6-3 guard Cedric Jackson rejoined Erie. Jackson logged six minutes in three games for the Cavaliers. The former Cleveland State standout has averaged 14.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists in 23 games for the BayHawks.

  • In a pair of moves, Dakota signed 6-10 forward-center Cory Underwood and waived 6-9 guard-forward Marcus Dove. Underwood averaged 7.1 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 53.1 percent from the field in 11 games combined with Albuquerque and Idaho this season.

  • Idaho has reacquired Coby Karl. The 6-5 guard from Boise State returned to the Stampede following another short NBA stint with the Golden State Warriors, who opted to not sign Karl to a second 10-day contract. Karl was productive for the Warriors, averaging 7.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 26.3 minutes. He rejoined Idaho after averaging 27.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the D-League club.

  • Tulsa has reacquired 7-foot center Steven Hill. The Arkansas product has averaged 1.2 points and 2.0 rebounds in nine games in an injury-plagued season.

Ed - don't worry, even the ABA has a hard time finding their own stats. You can try the league website - abalive.com - but it hasn't been updated since mid January.
