Springfield Armor fans have been busy getting acquainted with new players. The NBA D-League expansion franchise, just 5-22 so far, hopes to fare much better in the second half of the season.
The Armor recently traded the league’s leading scorer, forward Morris Almond, and forward T.J. Cummings to Maine for guard Tony Bobbitt and forward-center Noel Felix.
Almond, a first-round selection by the Utah Jazz in the 2007 NBA draft, is averaging 26.8 points per game. He has appeared in 34 NBA games for the Jazz. Cummings was averaging 15.1 points and 8.9 rebounds at the time of the trade.
Bobbitt, who played with NBA veteran Vince Carter at Daytona Beach Mainland High School, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2004-05 NBA season and played two games.
The 6-9 Felix also boasts NBA experience. The Fresno State alumnus signed a 10-day contract with the Seattle SuperSonics in March 2006 and was later signed for the remainder of the season, playing in 12 NBA games. The 2005 CBA Defensive Player of the Year, Felix played in Israel after being waived by the Sonics in October 2006.
