It's the 2009 PBN Pick 'Em Party!

Pro Basketball News

We've checked the guest list, allowed you to shuffle ahead the horde and opened the velvet rope. Welcome to the 2009-10 PBN Pick 'Em Party, an all-season affair.

The Pick 'Em Party began with last year's postseason, when Sam Amico asked staffers Tony Mejia and Chris Bernucca for their predictions. Not content with run-of-the-mill ramblings, Chris decided to flash his limited HTML skills and turn our picks into an orderly array of color usually found in a new box of crayons.

We added a points system that was slightly easier to understand than base year compensation to determine which of us sucked the least at picking winners. Ultimately, that was Amico, who wrapped up matters early by going 11-1 through the first two rounds.

There will be a new champion this season as Amico has left the prediction business. We have added two new party hosts in Brian Dulik and Wesley Chism Jr., frequent contributors to PBN.

This season's party is bigger, too. Remember when you threw a party in your basement for your friends? By the time the cops came, a buddy had taken his girlfriend into your parents' bedroom, four schmoes were drinking beer on the roof, someone peed in the catbox and two guys you even didn't know were fighting in front of the house.

That's what this party is like. We have team predictions, individual award predictions and an opinion section with random questions.

We also have a scoring system that is so easy, even the stat crew of the Atlanta Hawks would understand it. In the first two secti ons, there are 33 categories. Each one is worth one point. In the playoff teams sections, you get an extra point for each team correctly seeded team.

From time to time during the season, we will check in and see whose picks have become worthy of insult and degradation. Prior to the postseason, we will tally the totals and make our playoff picks.

The winner gets the inalienable right to demean his colleagues. For the rest of the prizes, click here

We hope that you disagree vehemently with our picks, thoroughy question our basketball knowledge and offer opinions in the comments section. Just stay out of our parents' bedroom.

Chism has: L.Powe as his 6th man and per ESPN, "is not expected to be ready to play until sometime around February." He's not going to win 6th man with half a season from which to be judged. And he's got most improved going to S.Livingston... Unless R. Westbrook gets hurt S.Livingston will never get enough PT to prove how "Most Improved" he is. Then "Biggest Fall" going to Milwaukee yet the defending Eastern Conference Champion Orlando Magic are not in his pick to make the playoffs... That certainly won't occur, but lets go with Chism's suggestion that the Magic don't make the playoffs, so shouldn't that make the Magic his "BIGGEST FALL"? Milwaukee's record last season 34/48. Orlando's record last season 59/23. Since 2000 the 8th seed in the EC has averaged 39.88 wins. So if the Magic fail to make the playoffs as Chism suggest that would mean that they would probably fail to win even 39 games. Thus by Chism's suggestion they would be no more than a 38 win team at the max. For the Bucks to have the "Biggest Fall" they would have to lose 22 games minimum per his suggestion, making them at max a 12 win team.

Chism has Orlando out of the playoffs and they are not the biggest fall? Does Milwaukee win zero games then?

Good stuff. Can't wait to see how it all works out. This should be a very exciting season.
