All of Minnesota spent the night fearing the worst news that Ricky Rubio could be done for the season after suffering a knee injury last night in their loss to the Lakers.
Unfortunately, that is the case according to Chris Mannix of SI.com.
Jerry Zgoda of the Star-Tribune has more on the story including that Rubio will likely miss playing for Spain this summer in the Olympics, handing the team a huge blow as possibly the biggest threat against Team USA for the gold medal.
It looked like just a routine play when Rubio went over to trap Kobe Bryant on the left wing with 16.4 seconds remaining. As Kobe tried to go around Rubio, their knees collided and the young point guard when down in a heap.
He had to helped off the court while the Lakers star went to the line following the line and sank the game winning free throws. Moments later, Rubio tried to walk on the sideline but was in obvious pain and could not return to the game.
Since joining the team this year, Rubio has injected a huge boost of excitement to the team and how well he has clicked with the NBA-style of basketball, especially with Kevin Love as a great 1-2 combination.
It likely ends any chances of trading Luke Ridnour for another piece before the trade deadline. The team does have another chip in Michael Beasley and his expiring contract that they could move to get an upgrade before Thursday.
