Just a few weeks ago, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that the Lakers would be moving Pau Gasol for multiple pieces in hopes of improving their point guard position and helping with their salary cap in the future. Those talks have died down over the last few weeks but the Bulls are hoping they heat up again.
Chicago has reportedly reached out to Los Angeles about a deal that would involve star forward Gasol according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com. The deal would almost have to include Carlos Boozer and the Lakers do not have much interest in him. So, a third team would have to be included in any deal to help find a desirable point guard for the Lakers.
LA is still searching for an upgrade at that position and continue to talk with the Cavaliers about Ramon Sessions. Dave McMenamin of ESPNLosAngeles.com says there was a recent conversation that also included the Rockets where LA would have received Sessions and future considerations from Houston, the Rockets would get a future 1st round pick from the Lakers and Cleveland would land backup point guard Jonny Flynn from the Rockets. Those talks have been shelved but LA is still very interested in the Cavs’ backup point guard.
As for Gasol, he could still be moved to another team with the Lakers keeping discussions open with other teams for now.
