It seems that Deron Williams is basically on his own for the time being in New Jersey with Dwight Howard set to opt-in on his contract and remain with the Magic for another season.
Williams could walk at the end of the season in free agency with New Jersey getting nothing in return. So, the question is whether or not the team will look to trade him and get something rather than taking that chance.
All reports today are that the Nets are not fielding offers for the all-star point guard. Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports that Jersey would even reject a deal from the Lakers for Pau Gasol for Williams.
It’s well known that LA would ship out Gasol if they can land a top point guard in return and Williams would be a massive plus for them. But Stein says that back in December, the Lakers already offered Gasol for Williams and were rebuffed by the Nets.
It’s looking more and more likely that the Nets will make other deals today to add talent or cap space and the Lakers will be holding on to Gasol for the remainder of the season.
