Over the past few weeks, there has been plenty of talk about the Celtics possibly moving Rajon Rondo. But that has died down lately with coach Doc Rivers even believing that his point guard will be staying put.
Mike Breshanan of the LA Times says that the Lakers and Celtics did talk last week about a deal for Rondo but the talks didn’t go far because LA is unwilling to include Pau Gasol.
Breshanan believes that the Lakers are more likely to add Timberwolves’ forward Michael Beasley but the team still does not want to give up Dallas’ first round pick that they acquired in the deal for Lamar Odom before the season.
LA does have an $8.9 million trade exception from the Odom deal but management looks to be reluctant to adding more salary since it is already over the luxury tax threshold. Beasley is making $6.3 million this season and is in the last year of his contract.
Meanwhile, the Celtics will probably keep Rondo who had a strong game against the Lakers on Sunday with 24 points and 10 assists in the loss. It looks like he’s not going anyway before Thursday’s trade deadline.
