New Warriors’ owner Joe Lacob is trying to make a splashy and even risky move, hoping to land Magic center Dwight Howard on his club. The one thing he won’t do is help Orlando keep the center.
According to Ken Berger of CBSSports.com, Lacob will not make a deal that would send Monta Ellis to the Magic where he would play alongside Howard. There have been various reports that Orlando has been trying to put together scenarios where they would get the electric scorer with other teams also involved in a potential deal.
Berger goes on to say that Howard has a list of players he would like to team with that includes Ellis with Nets’ point guard Deron Williams believed to be on that list as well. Howard’s representatives have also been telling teams that New Jersey remains his top destination.
Over the past few weeks, the picture has become clear that the all-star center does not want to be traded and would prefer to join the Nets this offseason via free agency, putting him with the team he wants and them not having to gut their roster in the process.
