NBA DRAFT: May 24, 2008
Mock draft, version III
Sidelines
NBA scouts share one common thought when it comes to this year's draft: It's not very deep.

"Beyond the first two picks, pretty much everything is a guessing game," one scout told me.

Another went as far as to say that you could get as good  a player at No. 23 as you could at
No. 3.

"That's sometimes the case anyway," the scout said. "But it's even moreso this year."

And when that type of uncertainty exists, it usually means a heavy dose of foreign players being drafted (especially in the second round).

Not sure that makes sense, but that's just the way it is -- as teams see guys like Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili hit it big, and try to find an overseas steal of their own.

Either way, after Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose, the draft is pretty much one big unknown (although most scouts feel O.J. Mayo, Eric Gordon and Danilo Gallinari are sure-bets, too).

"It can be a good news-bad news type of deal," the first scout said. "The good is that you can get a player to help your team late. The bad is that having a pick outside the top six or seven might not mean a whole lot."
