National pride
The FIBAs have gotten started, and although there have been upsets, tight games and quite a few highlights, they're getting little play here in the States. PBN's Tony Mejia implores you to take notice, offering soccer-style drinking games and other ways to make the FIBAs as festive as the FIFA World Cup, which captivated the country's attention and inspired a wave of patriotism. Don't sleep on international basketball's appeal.

Back in a saddle
Danny Ferry cut his teeth in the management game by learning under R.C. Buford, Gregg Popovich and the sparkling San Antonio set-up. He's back now after the debacle in Cleveland, Steve LeMaster writes in his Minors Report, filled with news and notes.

Turkey and trimmings
Host Turkey isn't favored to win Group C, but figures to be handful with passionate crowds behind it every step. Ersan Ilyasova, plastered here on a Turkish landmark, may star with Mehmet Okur out. Tony Mejia previews Group C, (Greeks vs. Turks) and D (Spain Invitational).

Staring down the competition
Argentina looms as the class of Group A, but no longer deserves FIBA's top ranking ahead of an American squad that should run away with Group B. See for yourself in Tony Mejia's preview of the top two groups at the World Championships, which kicked off in Turkey on Saturday.

Greek sneaks
By now, international basketball is an old hat to Coach K and staff, so they recognize a smokescreen when they see it. Team USA's hollow 87-59 win showcased Eric Gordon, but PBN's Tony Mejia explains that the road will be far more difficult from here on out.

August 24
Big year brewing
Corey Brewer isn't thinking about Ricky Rubio or paying attention to LeBron James' Twitter warnings. He's locked in on improving right with the Timberwolves, telling PBN's Chris Haynes that Minnesota has pieces to compete, especially if his offensive game keeps improving.

August 20
Overrated
Joe Johnson was very fortunate this summer, parlaying N.Y.'s interest into the richest contract signed during 2010's historic free agency period. Chris Haynes finds it easy to paint him with the overrated brush, placing him atop his list of five names getting more credit than they deserve.

August 19
Run, Rudy, run? Really?
Rudy Fernandez wants to go back to Spain? Really? PBN's Chris Haynes writes that if this is true, not a ploy to get to New York, Rudy's failure is the latest example of a highly touted wing from overseas to fail in the NBA.

Prime time players
Hope you like the Celtics, who are on TV next season more frequently than "Law & Order" reruns. Chris Bernucca breaks down the entire national TV slate.

Reno feels right

August 12
Thorn in Nets' side
Rod Thorn's decision not to continue on in New Jersey drove speculation that there was a rift between he and Mikhail Prokhorov. PBN's Tony Mejia says it helps to spice up a long-dead Nets-Sixers rivalry and thankfully makes the Atlantic Division far more interesting.

August 12

Indy hauls in a motor
In a blockbuster four-team trade, Indiana took advantage of New Orleans' desire to keep Chris Paul, landing Darren Collison. Tony Mejia believes Collison is ultimately the best player in a deal featuring Troy Murphy and Trevor Ariza, capable of helping Larry Bird complete his rebuilding plan.
